When to use this template

  • Opening a new role and starting from a blank page
  • Rewriting an old posting that attracts the wrong candidates
  • Aligning a hiring manager and recruiter on what success looks like

How to get a useful result

  1. Describe what the person will achieve at 3, 6, and 12 months. Outcomes attract better candidates than task lists.
  2. Keep must-have skills short. Every extra requirement discourages qualified people from applying.
  3. Include the salary range and work arrangement if you can share them. Leave out anything not yet approved.

What this template does—and its limits

Review the posting with the hiring manager and check that it complies with local employment law. The template does not validate legal requirements or pay equity.
