When to use this template

  • Synthesizing a round of discovery interviews before a planning meeting
  • Comparing what beginners and experts say about the same workflow
  • Preparing a research readout for stakeholders who did not attend the interviews

How to get a useful result

  1. Paste quotes or close paraphrases rather than your conclusions. The synthesis can only be as good as its raw material.
  2. Name the segments you want compared. Otherwise differences between user groups get averaged away.
  3. Remove names and identifying details from transcripts before pasting them.

What this template does—and its limits

A synthesis cannot replace the interviews themselves. Check each insight against the original notes, and treat patterns from a handful of interviews as hypotheses.
