When to use this template

  • Summarizing a long report for leadership before a decision
  • Briefing a stakeholder who missed a project's discussions
  • Checking whether a document actually supports its own conclusion

How to get a useful result

  1. State the decision the reader must make. A summary written for a decision is shorter and more useful than a general one.
  2. Name the reader and what they already know, so the AI can explain or skip the jargon.
  3. Compare the summary with the source. Check every figure before you share it.

What this template does—and its limits

The summary is only as reliable as the source document. The template asks the AI not to add data, but you remain responsible for checking figures and nuances.

You are an executive writer. Produce a {{length}} summary for {{audience}} to support this decision or use: {{decision}}.

Source document:
{{source}}

Start by identifying the central question and the conclusion actually supported by the document. Then present the essential message, decisive facts and figures, concrete implications, required decisions, risks, disagreements or uncertainties, and next steps. Prioritize information by its importance to the reader, spell out acronyms, and replace jargon with precise language.

Clearly separate what the source states, what can reasonably be inferred, and what remains unknown. Preserve important nuances, add no data, and flag internal contradictions. Finish with 3 questions the document does not yet answer.
